Heard at Today's Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Tony. Scott Fisher lead us in prayer. Tony lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Tricia selected My Country Tis of Thee for the song.
Happy $: Lots of folks weer happy for a Steeler victory in Super Bowl XLIII. Wes was happy to use Pete Burke's wallet for happy $. (Pete left his wallet at the Sgt at Arms Table) Dick waws happy to celebrate his grand daughter's first birthday. The joy he recieved to see her dig into a birthday cupcake.
Good to see Suzy back!
Educator: Continued to emphasize the objects of Rotary.
Announcements:
Henry Moncure announced Manchester MS inconjunction with Virginia Holocust Museum is remembering the Holocust, February 9 and 10, 2009, 7:00 pm, Manchester MS. Tiskets are $3.00 and proceeds go to the Virginia Holocust Museum. Contact Henry for more details
Pete Adler announced a Ramp project. (This is for one of our own. A relative of one of Sam Galstan's employees) Ramp sections will be built Saturday February 7 starting at 8:00AM. at ElderHomes warehouse located at 88 Carnation Street, Richmond. Going east on Midlothian Turnpike. On site construct is scheduled for February 28, 2009.
Pete Burke announced that Pete A. is heading another team to assist in huricane relief (Houston Area) He challenged the club to donate $ to defray travel expenses. Pete started the challenge w/$20 and several more members chipped in.
Greatest way to promote Rotary is by wearing your pin...only your pin.
Board Meetings was held this past Monday: One sad result coming from the board was Bud Yerly, Ed Littlejohn and Jeff Peters were removed form the active roster. All are welcomed back when their situation warrants. Also a committee (Angelo, Larry and Tony) was organized to review the by-laws. More are welcomed to joined if interested.
A motion was made seconded and passed to provide a $200 donation to Succesful Family Service. (Dr Mary E. Banks, president, spoke to the club several weeks ago) Funds will come form vocational service budget. Any further support will reguire the club to do more due diligence.
Founders Night February 28 at Highlands Country Club Cost $35 per person $70 per couple
RYLA is next weekend. The club is sponsoring two attendees. Boo is looking for judges on Monday and college age students. The event is held in Wakefield, Va at the 4H Center
Krista is organizing a cooking team for McQuire VA Hospital Dinner on March 27. Pete Burke reserved the kitchen at Grace Lutheran.
Nominees for the Warren G. Thompson Award are being solicited. Award named for the club first president. Nominee must be a non Rotarian who has given to the community.
A Warren G. Thompson page (under development) has been established on the public website. Need Information i.e past awardees etc.
