Heard at Today's Meeting

Pres. Warren called the meeting to order at 7:30. Tony Led the Pledge of allegiance, Sam led the prayer, and Scott led us in song "O Come, O Come Emanuel" - appropriate for the season

Happy $

Many Happy $ flowed. With reflections on the parade and the Christmas party. Tony was also happy that Scott was such an accomplished "Wordsmith" (referring to the letter going out to all sponsors from last year).

John was happy his daughter was accepted at UVA (disappointed it's not VT)

Announcements

Scott read the letter to sponsors with a reminder to renew for 2007.

Chuck said we have until Jan 15 to finalize cup sponsors before the Bowling Tournament Feb 5.

Boo has arrangements almost completed for "Founder's Night" on Feb 24 at Independance Golf Course. Tickets will be about $30pp.

Scott announced that Shawnee, from the Richmond Friends of the Homeless, was away because her father passed away on Nov 10 and missed a deadline for a grant leaving them with a $20M shortfall in their budget needs for 2007. Looking for additional fund raising.

This Week's Program

PE Bill introduced his guest speaker who really needed no introduction as this is about the 15th successive year John Bernier has brought us his weather predictions for the following year. Usually they are forgotten by his next visit so we don't know how close he was. We did remember he said thad 2006 would probably be a hurricane season similar to 2005. Here are the highlights of his predictions for 2007:

  • 16 inches of snowfall, with at least 2 big ones of 6+ inches
  • A near "Normal" (whatever that is) hurricane season

Of course he danced around the predictions a little, but we always enjoy John's annual visit. He really should become a member so we could fine him every week when his forecast is wrong.

John encouraged all to watch his TV Special, Friday Night 8PM on ABC

Upcoming Programs

Next week our speaker host will be John R. Be sure to check the website calendar for future speaker hosts

Also check the district website at www.rotary7600.org and look on the calendar.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests

We had almost as many guests as members present today with visiting Rotarian Mr. Peanut, Jat Tesh, and guests Caror Rauschberg and the Principal of Ecoff Elementary as guests of Bill. Sam G brought his son, and Larry M his father-in-law. It's great to have a venue where we can accommodate more guests.

The 50/50 pot has grown to over $700 and the even the small pot was $50. Dave was the winner and will lead us in song next week.

As Always, we close the meeting with the 4-way test....Of the things we think, say, and do...

Is it the  TRUTH...

Is it  FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED...

Will it   BUILD GOOD WILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIP....

Will it be  BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCERNED....
