Educator: Social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, can be a great way to appeal to the younger generation and increase membership. Meetup.com can also be an easy way to find people with like interests. Rotary International is on all of these. Chester Rotary has a Facebook page-check it out!
Announcements: Warren Rice (Boo's husband) is organizing the GSE Team to Brazil. There will be a Chesterfield County Teacher, a Tax Specialist, a Fire Fighter, and a Medical Research Analyst from VCU going soon.
Foundation contributions are allocated as part of Chester Rotary dues. If you wish to give beyond that, see Sam by next week to finalize your donation amount.
Wheel Chair Ramp is being built on Saturday, March 20th before the dinner. Contact Pete or Pete to participate.
Founders Night is Saturday, March 20th at the Highlands Country Club. Cocktails at 6:00 and dinner at 6:30. Hopefully, you have notified June and paid $35 per plate by now! See you there!
Fool for the Arts is April 17th at John Tyler Midlothian Campus. Larry is in charge of organizing for this event. He will need help on April 16th for setup and all day the day of the event.
HOGG festival will be on May 12th. We need to collect ticket sponsors ($50/each). We will work on getting the ABC permit and securing the site. Bill H. is organizing this event. We would like to have sponsors for the different venues (i.e. ice cream, food, etc.).
This Week's Program: Dr. Steve Burton from Sports Quest was our guest speaker. His parents will be recieving the Warren Thompson Award this Saturday. Sports Quest is being built at Rte. 288 and Powhite. It will cover 250 acres when it is completed in the spring of 2012. Currently, they have developed a model of Olympic training that has trained ice skaters who earned medals in the 2010 Winter Olympics. They also support an indoor football team, The Richmond Revolution that plays at the Arthur Ashe Center. They will have 17 synthetic fields that will allow Richmond to host numerous large scale sporting events that currently are not available to the area. Memberships are available now. Membership allows you the opportunity to participate in any of the Sport Quest venues. Prices are increasing so consider purchasing now.
